This Indianapolis maternity session felt like everything I want my maternity photography to be. It had golden light, meaningful moments, movement, emotion, and most importantly- space for two people to simply be together. At the end, there was even a beautiful and unexpected full-circle moment.
We chose to have this maternity session at The Virginia B. Fairbanks Art & Nature Park. This is a gorgeous park that is part of Newfields. With 100 acres full of gorgeous woodlands, meadows, trails, art sculptures, and a lake- there is no shortage of beautiful backdrop options for your maternity photos. This is absolutely one of my favorite locations in the Indianapolis area.
The golden hour light this location provides is truly incredible. The tall grass field that is conveniently located right off the walking path from the gravel parking area paired with the filtered light coming through trees gives that beautiful, romantic feel that I adore for my sessions. The icing on the cake? My client's dress was this beautiful, flowy, neutral gown that helped really pull together a romantic and effortless vibe.
The coolest thing happened toward the end of this maternity session. When I asked if they had any other pose or idea requests before we officially wrapped up their session, they responded by sharing a realization they had while walking around. They were pretty sure this happened to be the same location where their very first photos together had been taken years ago. We walked over to the exact area that they thought the photos were taken, and it turned out that it truly was the same spot! Watching that realization hit in real time was one of those quiet moments that reminded me why photography matters so much. The capability of photos to hold memories is truly magical. It was such a special, full-circle moment that I was so honored to be a part of.
These are the kinds of sessions I want to create more of. Ones that are filled with meaningful moments and beautiful memories. I want my clients to look back at their photos and not only love the images, but love the feeling they get when looking at them while remembering what they were feeling in those moments. I don't want my photos to just be "photos". I want them to feel like visual representations of emotions frozen in time.
